Loy Krathong

Yesterday afternoon while rushing to make a lunch appointment, I passed through the Klong Toey intersection (Asok and Rama IV). But you couldn't actually pass through because there was a tent set up. Flags waving. People shouting into a loud speaker. Everyone wore yellow and had the little clappers. It was a demonstration. Probably 400 or 500 people in the intersection. Traffic at a stand still. Tempers flaring. Fortunately I was on motorbike, so I just maneuvered around.

I made it to lunch on time. Met a friend. Had dinner. Then went with Laura, Jake and Anna to the park to set free their Krathongs.

Yesterday was Loy Krathong. It's a tradition to make a little banana leaf boat. You put some flowers on it for decoration. Then a candle and some incense. You light it and set it in water with a prayer to the water god to take your sins and misdeeds away. We didn't pray to the water god (that wouldn't be right), but we did light the candle and incense and thank God for dying for our sins. This is Anna with her Krathong.

Thais all over the country were reflecting on their misdeeds yesterday. Then this morning at 1am, someone dropped a bomb from the overpass at the Klong Toey junction into the middle of the protesters. 13 people were injured. Witnesses saw two guys.

It appears there were at least two cowards who didn't reflect long enough on their sins.
