It's not always the flashy stuff

This afternoon my son (3 yrs and pictured with the wildflowers) came running upstairs. "Daddy, Daddy, there's a crab outside. Do you want to come see?" So I had to run downstairs to see the crab that one of our church employees had bought for her dinner. It was sitting in a sink being watered and Jake thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. This despite the fact that both the snappers and legs were taped so it wasn't dangerous and it couldn't run.

We buy him cool toys that cost a ton of money. We take him all over town to see the sights. And a crab bought for 25 cents down the street excites him more than anything I've ever seen.

There's probably a spiritual lesson in there somewhere. Sometimes as Christians we think we have to wow people with clever presentations of the gospel. So we spend a bunch of money and time running all over town putting on the best show possible. And then (at least in my experience) people get most excited when we just tell them about Jesus.

Looking forward to Sunday... it's going to be great.
