2007 Church Leadership

Some thoughts on Sunday. First - our choir really tied one on during their special music. It was awesome. We need that kind of energy/enthusiasm throughout the entire service musically. I've thought we had the talent for it. Now I know we do, so expectations just went up! :)

We also had a great first Church Council meeting of 2007. A few thoughts on making Church leadership meetings count.

(1) Church leaders need to lead, not manage. Do not focus on meaningless details which can be handled by a smaller group.
(2) Church leadership cannot be done with volunteers on a monthly or weekly basis anymore in a major metropolitan city. People are too busy. We are changing to a quarterly "retreat" meeting. I don't know if it will work. I do know that monthly weeknight meetings did not.
(3) Church leadership should be a spiritually enriching experience. I'll be working my tail off to make it that this year.
(4) Laughter is always good. And it's very important in meetings.
(5) Determine two or three things you want to do and then get some stuff done. You can't accomoplish more than 1 or 2 big things in a year. Stay focused. Don't try to do too much by committee.

God bless.
